Solar Tracking
Solar panels generate the maximum amount of energy if the panel is perpendicular to the light striking it. With fixed installation solar systems, the panels are oriented to provide the best possible energy generation but, for a large portion of the year, there position means that they are not generating energy at their full capacity.
Tracking systems exist that move the panel to keep it aligned with the sun as it moves. There are three types of tracking systems:
- Azimuth Tracking
Azimuth tracking systems move the panel in one axis to track the sun's position as it moves throughout the day. - Elevation Tracking
Elevation tracking systems move the panel in one axis to track the sun's position as its height in the sky changes throughout the year. - Two Axis Tracking
Multi-axis tracking systems change the panels orientation to adjust for azimuth and elevation and produce the maximum amount of energy.
